Shopping Cart

How many of us put our purse in the kiddie seat of the shopping cart?  Me, too.  Have you ever thought how easy a snatch and run would be for a thief?

I thought about it and this is what I came up with.  I have several purses with clip on shoulder straps.  I un-hook one end, loop it through the handle of the cart and re-hook to the purse.  It may not stop a determined thief, but it will slow him down and draw attention.

  1. Many of the shopping carts in the area that I live in have safety seat belts for children seating in the kiddie seats, I attach it through the handles of my purse. I also make sure that my purse is closed because many times I just leave it open in my car or home.

  2. I have a small carabiner clipped to one of the metal buckles on my purse (I sling my keying to it so I don't lose my keys. I've also been known to clip the carabiner to a shopping cart or similar (to slow down a would-be thief) and sometimes, when carrying in an airport or other place where a grab might be more likely, I'll clip it around a belt loop on my jeans.

  4. Never. I have always kept my purse on my shoulder, even before I became more concerned about my safety. I lived in California for years where purse snatchers were common.

  5. When I carry a purse (and it's rare), I carry it across my chest. Very, very rarely do I set it in the shopping cart and if I do, I always keep my hand on it.

Something to think about if you're carrying in your purse - do you want to leave your purse in the shopping cart if your gun's in it? Even if you clip it to the cart as suggested, you don't have easy, fast access to your gun if you need it.

    1. I do carry a purse all the time but almost never with a gun in it. I would not leave it anywhere out of my immediate control with a gun in it.

But, I do need both hands a lot at the grocery store and find that while it is still in my sight and with in reach, I feel more comfortable if I can clip it to the cart in some way.
